THE BLACK INDEPENDENT PARTY OR THE EMANCIPATION OF SISYPHUS

It is often said that Black people are not a monolith. But maybe, some monoliths are good for you.

On the floor of Congress in 1864, while debating the 13th Amendment, a white man stood and said to the governing body of America that its Black citizens were "human beings, created by God" and should be endowed with all the rights afforded to white people.

He went on further, to call the opposing party a "gang of racists." That man was Thaddeus Stevens, and he was a Republican. The gang of racists he spoke of, were Democrats.

A century later, JFK, a Democratic President said these words:

"One hundred years of delay have passed since President Lincoln freed the slaves, yet their heirs... are not fully free. They are not yet freed from the bonds of injustice... this Nation... will not be fully free until all its citizens are free.... Now the time has come for this Nation to fulfill its promise." 

And today, we have a Republican Party Thaddeus Stevens would dislike and probably disown when it comes to race relations. And we have a Democratic Party, the descendants of that racist gang, that has cast itself as the saviors of Blacks.

Black Americans, the descendant of slaves, started out as Republicans, then changed to Democrats. Both parties have embraced us, used us, and then abandoned us. Both have been brother and oppressor, protector and murderer.

So why have allegiance to either party? Why not start our own? Well, there are many obstacles to that none the least of which is black folks have no sociological cohesiveness these days, but that is a blog for another day.

We are still the biggest unassimilated group in this nation. And if you are thinking "Black people are not a monolith," then you are responding to programming by the people who benefit from Black divisiveness. Black people need to be monolithic in politics. A monolith is big, broad and can, if positioned correctly, blot out the sun.

If all Black voters switched to Independent, it would be like nothing we've seen since the 1960's. It would be nonviolent and quiet but the results would change everything.

Imagine both parties fighting over tens of millions of votes. Imagine the Republicans having to take a position on race other than using it for divisiveness and blame. Imagine Democrats having to work for and please Black people for their votes, instead of taking them for granted. And imagine a Black President having to deal with a Black constituency by exchanging political capital for votes and not symbolic rhetoric and ethnic pandering. (Yes, I said pandering)

Black Republicans would have to give up the idea that values and morality somehow make them belong to a party that hasn't had their best interests at heart for a century and that is home to some of the most outspoken bigots in the nation.

Black Democrats would have to acknowledge that the history of their party is mired in racism, hate and oppression and their current inclusion was done for political reasons, not brotherly love. If the Democrats are so great, then tell me why do we still suffer after more than a century in their good graces and after the election of their choice for the first Black President? I'll wait.

The Black Independent Party and its Badass Eagle Logo would issue the following platform:

• Reparations of $500 Trillion ($500,000,000,000,000) (Okay, it's just a scare tactic but it's should always be there as a reminder of who we are: Never Forget.)  
• Decriminalization of drugs.
• Immediate end of for-profit prisons and mass incarceration.
• National Recovery and Jobs Act
• Reinstatement of Affirmative Action in all sectors of Business and Education.
• Reestablishment of the Fairness Doctrine, dismantling of the Big News Media and breaks for local newspapers so that a free press can be maintained.

And oh yeah, about the subtitle of this piece: King Sisyphus was made to roll the boulder up the mountain only to watch it roll back down again and again for eternity because of his pride and cleverness in the face of the gods. Why do we, the Black people, continue to carry the boulder of our support for two parties who historically have offered second-class citizenship at best and at worst, death? What kind of mindset takes mistreatment and marginalization as reward for boosting men to great power? Well, as I said before, that is a blog for another day. 

For today, let's free Sisyphus.

OBAMA UNCHAINED?

A Second Term President Reveals Who A Man Really Is. 

So, now what?

Barrack Obama has been sworn in for a second term and after the parties and the parades and Beyonce what's gonna happen?

There was always the hope that the reserved man of the first term would give way to a more rambunctious President, one who would embrace progressivism and run with it. But judging from his speech, that's probably not going to happen. But I am making a direct appeal to the President.

Go Django.

Well, not in the literal sense. He should not try to erase his enemies, although would any of us miss the legitimate rape guy?

No, he should do it in the metaphorical sense, stop trying to please people who will never like or respect you.  Dr. King didn't want to be loved; he wanted people to embrace the policy of love but he was resolute in his beliefs and if you didn't like him, that was cool, just get out of the way.

I never expect any President to do anything by himself.  The Presidency is really very symbolic and so the President should stand for something, not just the circular politics of our time. He should stop declaring wars on concepts and inanimate objects and speak candidly about how people are losing ground.

But even if the President cannot be more Django-like, we can do something. We can unchain our minds against the things that have kept us enslaved to hopelessness, self-hate and discord. And for that we need no permission, no leadership, just will.

So, let's all say goodbye to Miss Candie and get it done.

EVERYTHANG IS RACIST (Updated)

America Has Always Had Problems, But One Notion Seems To Always Be The Icing On The Cake.

The title of this piece comes from my old barber in Detroit. During a conversation about politics, he uttered the now famous line.

"Shut the hell up man, everythang is racist!"

He didn't mean it literally, of course.  What he was saying was that race is so intertwined, connected and fused to the bones of American life, that it seems to touch and concern every problem we have.

As I look back at our history and assess our current dilemmas, it is clear he has a point.

Slavery of course was the beginning of it all.  But before the evil practice, men and women of color held positions of power and authority and were integrated into society without much incident.  As we all know, the first President of the pre-United States was black. Also, little known is that President Warren G. Harding was the great grandson of a black woman. If Obama is Black then so is my man Warren G.

In the beginning, the connection of race was clear. Laws like the Fugitive Slave Act, the Kansas/Nebraska Act, Missouri Compromise, Dred Scott Case were all linked to race.  But some were more subtle, like the Electoral College. 

In his excellent book, A Renegade History Of The United States, historian Thaddeus Russell lays out documented proof that race and race relations have been and still are one of the predominant forces of American politics, economy and social structure.  

In successive and repetitive waves, Russell shows how one ethnic minority after another communed with blacks, "borrowed" their culture, then ascended into "respectability" where they assumed the intense bigotry of the dominant culture.

Over the years, our inability to address the sin of racism, even after a bloody civil war, has put us into a dangerous stage of denial wherein white America sought to have the benefits of murder and oppression without the guilt and the moral debt and Black America, even while attaining some socio-economic mobility, has never been able to push beyond the gravitational pull of self-hatred, self-destruction and disunity.

And so now we all hide behind euphemism, innuendo, suggestion and rhetoric when we talk about the ugly, sustained notion of racial inferiority.  Predatory lending, professional sports slavery, AltRight, Occupy Wall Street, The Help, Police shootings and The Hunger Games all have race somewhere in their core.  

And most recently, the election of a clearly non-white President unleashed a racial tidal wave like this country has not seen since the 1960's. The ugly depictions and statements about the President  made even some of his detractors cringe. And now after his departure, America has elected, under the guise of an outsider, yet another oblivious old white man who seeks to make America Great again by returning to the horrific practices that subjugated millions of people.

I ask you, if a simple barber saw to the core of our society's ills, why can't our leaders? Indeed, why can't any of us?

And as bias becomes more the norm each day, I wonder if my humble barber may have been even smarter than he knew, for if I accept his premise metaphorically, I am left with a startling and logical conclusion:

If everythang is racist...

Then nothing is.

AMERICAN BRAINWASH

Herman Cain hit upon something that so many Republicans and Democrats are afraid to say because saying it leads to a bigger truth.

"Black people have been brainwashed!" said Herman Cain. It was a provocative statement, but he did not go far enough. We are all brainwashed. Our country is not in the hands of the people or our elected representatives anymore. We all know it but refuse to stand against the banks and corporations and choose instead to hate each other. How's that working out by the way?

But specifically, as to Black America, Cain is absolutely correct. We have followed Democrats down the rabbit hole of freedom but have little to show for it. We believe Republicans block our progression but when Democrats do things that hurt us, we either deny it happened or we blame others.

Get the anti-detergent, I am here to un-wash your brain with a little story about your country.

ONCE UPON A TIME, Black America loved Republicans. This was the party of Lincoln, the party who went to war with their brothers and died to end slavery. No matter what the revisioninsts say, the Civil War was about the sin of slavery and no matter what Democrats say, their party wanted to keep us in bondage.

Then after the war, America thrived and the Republicans, now in power thanks in part to black votes, aligned with wealthy industrialists, banks and companies. They took the dark people for granted, allowing Jim Crow, lynching, discrimination and a further disintegration of America's good heart. The Democrats fell to ruin.

The Black people got tired of this treatment, especially when the country went into a Great Depression. So, we realigned ourselves with the Democrats, the guys who loved slavery and everything about it and fought to the death to keep it. Talk about the lesser of two evils.

After this, the Democrats got behind the dark people, but only to the extent it took to use their millions of votes to keep power. Democrat FDR served 4 terms using black votes, died in office and the Republicans were so afraid that we amended the Constitution to stop a President from becoming a king.

Since then, Blacks have voted overwhelmingly Democratic. Politics have cast Republicans as the devil, the people who hate Black America and Democrats have been cast as the lovers of Blacks, the people who just want everything to be fair and to make up for the sins of the past.

Both notions are completely false.

The Republicans are trying to reset American values back to the days when we put God first and believed that our nation was favored because our Constitution contained basic Christian values at its core. Unfortunately, the reset also carries with it the implicit desire by many to place Blacks and others in eternal second-class citizenship and maintain a corporate power structure that reinforces this notion. Sorry conservatives, but you know this is true you just don't think it will apply to you. You are wrong.

The Republicans tell you you can do it without the government's help but then they stack the deck against you so you will fail by providing no protection against the evil hearts of men which they claim to abhor but which their policies covertly support.

The Democrats are trying to move America forward, to accept the changing culture and economy and fit it to the cause of Americanism. Unfortunately, their progressivism is an ideological dodge. The Democrats, like the Republicans are the tools of corporate America and the big banks and their paternalistic and condescending attitude toward Blacks have kept us in cycles of poverty, incarceration and stagnation.

The Democrats give you a Black President and then refuse to support him. Then when he fails you, they ask you to hate Republicans because you know, they are evil.

The Democrats tell you that you need them to get to freedom and they will protect you from the evil men but then they secretly stack the deck against you so you will fail and then they blame it on their enemies and nothing changes.

Black people hold a strong belief that history shows you the truth. America's historical treatment of Blacks says it all. If we believe this, then the history of the two parties gives us reason to doubt them or to consider them equally. If this logic fails you, then I submit that you are indeed brainwashed.

America is not perfect. Our Founders wanted us to keep working on it, to create "A more perfect Union." And we are doing it-- slowly. But we must not be fooled by divisive politics which divorce us from the truth: that our inherent power as citizens is the heart and soul of this nation.

So, toss your brain into the machine. Bypass "white" and "colors' and set it on "tough stains."

America will be great again, when we are.

WE, THE DUMBASS PEOPLE

What Lies In Store For A Nation That Shuns Intellect In Favor Of Inanity and Chooses Form Over Substance? A Nitwit Nation.

In his 2006 film, Idiocracy, Mike Judge imagined a world where the collective IQ of Americans had fallen into the teens and a man of average intellect was the smartest person in the world. It is a brilliant satire and definitely worth seeing.

It is also fast becoming a reality.

How recently have you said, "Is it me or are people getting stupider?" You've seen these people. Can't make up their mind at McDonald's even when they have reduced the ordering to numbers. They talk, text and drive, endangering everyone. They only read books in school. They don't read newspapers, news blogs or magazines. They can't analyze the simplest issue but have strong opinions on everything. They misuse words-- with authority and they love anything that caters to the lowest common denominator.

I do not offer any scientific research or proof of what follows. It's just my opinion. But see, I'm smart and so my opinion is bolstered by good old fashioned brainpower.

We know the human brain absorbs data and processes it like no other machine on the planet. In fact, man's brain accounts for 100% of civilization. We also know that the brain is a muscle composed of white and gray matter and that like any muscle, it gets stronger when it is stimulated and used. "Learning" is a combination of memory and the collection and processing of data through the brain's binary process, you know, the opposite of TV news.

The best brain exercise of course is reading. In fact, if you've read this far, you are already smarter than you were just a minute ago and fifty times smarter than your average Senate Subcommittee.

The invention of the printing press changed the world more than any other invention because it made books available to masses of formerly unenlightened people. Free to imagine, think and reason, we read the great works of brilliant writers and man moved forward like an unbridled intellectual beast into the modern age by way of the book, the first technological marvel.

The knowledge attained by reading then sparked everything from art to bloody revolution, to a man on the surface of the moon and the splitting of the atom. And we've imagined everything from Bugs Bunny to time travel to the existence of God Himself.

And now we watch Real Housewives.

I could stop right here. I've really made my point. But let me continue to enlighten.

The mind needs stimulation to keep it nimble. For instance if there was no hard "C" and only "Q" no "W" but "R" then Re The People qould still qertainly qonqieve of Rhat I've just Ritten.

When we imagine, we grow smarter and open the door to great discovery. So it stands to reason that anything that does the work for your mind or makes "brainworking" easier, will lend itself to making you dumber. Ironically, the very intellect that lifted us up, gave rise to invention that has help make us idiots.

The first thing that dumbed down people was the radio. The radio helped us to imagine speeches, plays and the news. But our brain didn't have to work as hard and so we grew dependent on it and we tended to believe whatever we heard because it came through this incredible magical machine.

Then came the movies. We could now actually see the images and hear the words and we didn't need to imagine anything at all!. It was a short jump from there to television, the greatest "smart-robber" of all time. Now we had a brain-dimmer in every home and a whole generation of Americans started to allow machines to think and imagine for them.

Suddenly, American IQ's started to drop like the proverbial rock and intellect became not a goal but an assumption of a culture that had grown arrogant. Readership of books for pleasure and enlightenment went down. And because Intellectually-challenged minds cannot appreciate true talent or quality, the iconic representations in pop culture have fallen to our new cerebral low.

We now have singers that can't sing and (reality show) actors that can't act. We have newspapers that are more ads than news and TV media that is filled with pretty people who read from teleprompters and have no idea what journalistic standards are. We had a President who couldn't pronounce "nuclear" and a public who believe that jet fuel can melt steel. We have a business world where the only thing that matters is profit. We have politicians who don't believe in evolution, pander to biases and possess no noble purpose and religious leaders who use God as a weapon and ATM machine.

I know what you're thinking. "I grew up watching TV and movies and I have an iPod and I play video games and I'm pretty smart."

No, you're not.

At least not as smart as you would be if you had more imagining, more critical thinking, more wondering why and less Real Housewives. The sad truth is the baby Boomers are pretty smart. It's the successive generations that have arrived BDOA (brain-dead on arrival) to the world of adulthood. And by the way, the Internet is a combination of audio, video and reading and it's a wash, thank God.

There was a time when we wanted to be smart and we wanted our leaders to be smart. Now we just want to be rich, famous, beautiful and in charge. We now ask our leaders to tell us what we want to hear not what we need to hear. Without exercise, our brains have weakened and we are now fascinated by the nearest shiny object and susceptible to being influenced by our prejudices and greed with minds impervious to reason.

America's Second Civil War (Redux)

Class, Gender, Sex And Ideology Fuel The Second Civil War And This One Is Not Between The States But Between States Of Mind.

America was basically founded by two sets of pioneers. One group sought social freedom and an end to tyranny. They were progressives who questioned the status quo and defied a king. The others were seeking religious freedom and they were, you guessed it, conservatives and believed in freedom from tyranny and put God, country and family first.

Together, they changed the world.

And they did it because they had a wild land to conquer. They forgave each other their weaknesses and myopia. But even as they did, the conservatives drifted south to be in like company, leaving the progressives to the north. Good fences make good neighbors.

Later, after they had combined to kill and then take the land of Native Americans, they were at odds over the subjugation and enslavement of other human beings and denial of their humanity in search of commerce and easy wealth to fund their newly stolen nation.

The conservatives felt slavery was justified by their God and the liberals felt it was unjustified sin and bad for a free society-- and economy. In the bloody contest that followed, it is ironic that today's liberals (Democrats) supported slavery and today's conservatives (Republicans) opposed it. In the end, the progressives won and slavery ended.

For the next hundred years or so, America slowly became more and more liberal and progressive as her power grew. But it was the conservative and religious values that held together our society and allowed us to overcome fear, adversity and even more domestic growing pains. And it was the liberal and progressive America that pushed her forward in the acceptance of other races of people forming the greatest heterogeneous society the world had ever known. We built a thriving workforce and made America a manufacturing powerhouse.

And then, the 60's.

After slavery ended, other lesser forms of oppression began and as long as they did not disrupt commerce, America tolerated them. And so the Blacks rebelled, culminating in The Civil Rights Act of 1964 which basically guaranteed the rights the Founding Fathers had given to white American citizens almost 200 years before. The difference implicit in the Act was the admission that America had failed to extend these rights to blacks and women.

At the same time, the counterculture movement (the white civil rights movement) supported Black power and also demanded an end to many of the traditions of sex and societal convention. They demanded free love, free sex and freedom of expression wherein anything goes. The last vestiges of Victorianism, religion-influenced culture and accepted gender biases were about to fall.

The Democrats who had divided the country a hundred years earlier with their support of slavery now led the charge for liberal freedoms and called for an end to America's adherence to old-fashioned values, customs and biases. The conservative religious side fought back warning that without their foundation, America would lose its delicate balance and the nation would fall.

They were both right in theory but terribly wrong in the way they defended their arguments.

For the next decade and a half, America plunged head first into self-indulgence. The family structure began to crumble thanks to no-fault divorce and the rising acceptance of disposable relationships. This was in part due to the acceptance of changes in sexual morality, which subverted Biblical teachings. People had always had premarital sex but it was a sin. Suddenly, it was a lifestyle.

From 1960 to 1980 America saw the liberals win the culture war and while Blacks and women made historic gains in education, business and politics, we also slid into the excess, vanity and the greed of The Me Generation. And despite the widely held belief that women and Blacks were innocent in this failure, we were all in the ship as it was sinking. White men were blamed with all of America's ills and given little credit for any of its good, because after all, they had murdered everyone.

Resentment followed and so it was not shocking when in 1980, after two decades of liberal sentiment dominating our culture, there was a backlash and the second war for America's soul began.

Under the conservative rise was the notion that we had sold out American values for greed, vanity and sexual self indulgence that went against the tenets of religion, the balance of freedom and civilized restraint. Also intertwined with this thinking was the silent idea that Blacks and women had ruined prosperity by being given opportunities based on guilt connected to past wrongs and not merit. Liberals felt that this was so much white male whining by people afraid to compete on a level playing field and who walked around with millions of deaths on their moral tab.

So the battle began with no one being honest about what they believed because now after so much bloodshed and murder in the 60's, a new thing called Political Correctness ruled free speech and if you said anything that didn't support the idea that Blacks and women were just as good as any white man, you were excoriated, demeaned and could even lose your job. When this prohibition was extended to the handicapped, the old, gays and anyone who wasn't a white straight male, chaos ensued.

Conservatives were sure that Liberals believed that if white men were not forced to be fair, they would never be fair and would subjugate and enslave Blacks and women in new and improved ways and that in fact, minorities and women were superior to the evil white men.

Liberals were sure that Conservatives believed that white men were ordained by God to rule and everyone else should accept their second class status, believe in the white male God and never complain about His choice even if it meant you were discriminated against and forced to live below your talents and strengths.

Now that we had conquered the wild country, the two sides felt free to tear each other apart.

Conservatives won't admit that they lost the culture war and we have passed the point of no return. Americans will never go back into the sexless Victorian closet where women were once considered chattel. Blacks were never going to go back into pseudo-slavery. I dare say we would rather die first.

The Progressives won't admit the extension of liberal philosophy has turned the American family into a fractured nightmare, given rise to bitter divorces, created a generation of lost children and a relationship landscape that has devolved into juvenile sexual gamesmanship and that these facts have caused many of our society's ills.

And so with no more hearts and minds to win, our two intrepid groups, the progressives and the conservatives have reduced themselves to dirty tricks, lies, deceit and name-calling. And no one seeks to restore the balance that will save us because now any concession to liberalism or conservatism feels like defeat to a people who have enjoyed over 200 years of freedom and now believe they are never wrong about anything.

It's time for the grown-ups to take over. We have to ignore the extremists no matter how sweet their entreaties to our self-interest. We have to forgive good men and women who have made reasonable mistakes and not ban them from public service. And lastly, we must all take moral inventory and be brutality honest with ourselves and ask not which side we are on but why are fighting in the first place.

The delicate balance of Americanism has to return or we are lost no matter which side wins.

PRESIDENT SIGNS AFRICAN AMERICAN RETRIBUTION LAW

EXECUTIVE ORDER ALLOWS BLACKS
TO HARASS WHITES IN AMERICA.

WASHINGTON D.C. - After the scandal involving noted black scholar Henry Louis Gates, President Obama signed Executive Order 454 that allows all African Americans the unfettered power to harass and assault whites in America. It is being called The African American Retribution Law.

White congressmen were outraged, calling the order offensive and a slap in the face of democracy. “This is ridiculous!” said ultra conservative Senator Sam Brownback, (R) Kansas. “Even though these orders are largely symbolic, it still has the force of law. It’s open season on whites.”

Rush Limbaugh called the order “typical,” and further stated of the Gates affair that “Just because a black man is in his own house, doesn’t mean he’s not stealing from it.” Limbaugh was still commenting when he was savagely beaten by a janitor and Republican Party Chairman, Michael Steele.

Black politicians see the order differently. “He’s just leveling the playing field,” said Gov. Deval Patrick (D) Massachusetts and long time Obama supporter. “This order is the kind of thing Malcolm X would have done. It’s a threat bound by humanity.”

Mayor Corey Booker (D) of Newark New Jersey said he would not take advantage of the order but noted that no white person would know that and would be respectful.

Other blacks are not quite so philosophical. “I’m fucking up every white person I see,” said
Detroit native LaSarius Green Jr. “I’m filled with self-righteous pigmentation.” Green probably meant “indignation” but his point is well taken.

Many white citizens are alarmed but most see the order as symbolic of the history of our nation. “There was a time when this was the unofficial law of America agaist all black people,” said Bill Maher popular talkshow host of Real Time with Bill Maher. “No one has attacked me and I think the only whites that have to worry are the assholes, and you know, the Republicans.”

The law has certainly impacted the daily lives of many. Former Vice President Dick Cheney fired all the blacks from his security detail only to be bitch slapped by a washroom attendant in his private club who was later described as “extremely light-skinned.” Fox News host Bill O'Reilly has been missing for three days and in the grocery store, Uncle Ben and Aunt Jemima kicked the shit out of that guy on the Quaker Oats box.

Ironically, the call for tolerance has come from Henry Louis Gates himself. “We must not let our anger, no matter how justified, define us as a people,” said Gates. “We can be better than the oppressor of the past and the intolerant of today.”

“I feel that,” said LaSarius Green Jr. “But that don’t change my agenda. I’m on a tour.” When asked what kind of tour, Green said: “Me and my crew are on our way to Wall Street to kick ass and eat chitlins—and we all out of chitlins.”

REPUBLICANS PROPOSE BILL TO OUTLAW THE SUN

GOP PASSES BILL TO OUTLAW THE SUN.

WASHINGTON D.C. – The 2012 election devastated the Republican Party.  Worse for the GOP, is that the new President was African American, a fact which has angered Republicans to no end.

Since Obama has taken office, Republicans have opposed everything he has advocated, without logic, reason or intelligence. From Health Care to the Supreme Court, if Obama wants it, the Republicans do not.

But the opposition may have gone to the level of the absurd. After the President stated that he often enjoyed sunning himself on vacation, Republicans have moved to ban the sun.

The bill, #SB 5735 was proposed by a consortium of Republican Senators from the south. It calls for the U.S. to outlaw all forms of sunshine and make any enjoyment of it a felony.

“We’ve been addicted to sunshine too long,” said former governor Sarah Palin. “What America needs and what God wants is an end to this evil star.”

When told that the sun provided warmth and basically sustained life on the planet, Palin was quick to point out that she has a five point plan to drill for oil, run a sub-space pipeline to the moon and set it on fire, effectively making a new sun.

“These people are bat-shit crazy,” said retired President Bill Clinton who just rescued two prisoners from North Korea. “I know the GOP is down, but this is lunacy. Can you hate a man so much because he’s black that you would propose something so preposterous?”

MIT Physics professor Robert K. Roth stated that even if we could stop the sun that the effect would be cataclysmic and the universe as we know it would end. GOP chairman Michael Steele said the statement was alarmist then asked if Roth was a Jewish name.

NAACP President Ben Jealous says that this is really a weird indication that racism is ending in America. “They are desperate. They can’t apply any stereotype to the President and all attempts to undermine him using old imagery and fear have failed.
